Gifts, Games, and Geeky Frames: A Day of Unexpected Wins

Today, on a welcome day off work, I found myself appreciating the ‘small wins’ that add some enjoyment and relief to the normal pressure of living with chronic illness. Each of these wins, though modest, holds a significant place in my life.

The day began with an eye test, something routine yet unexpectedly taxing. I’m incredibly grateful to my partner who drove me there. As you all know by now, her support is a crucial part of my everyday life, transforming challenging tasks into manageable experiences.

Once home, I delved into a gaming session with friends to unwind and momentarily escape the discomforts of my condition. Today’s gaming was exactly what I needed – a perfect distraction that let me forget about my pain for a while.

Later, I took on a straightforward task for me, but daunting for others – fixing a laptop screen for a community member. It’s a reminder of how sharing a skill I have can make a difference to someone else. There’s a quiet satisfaction in being able to offer this kind of help, especially when it’s something that comes easily to me but is invaluable to them.

I sorted out Christmas cards, and my partner wrapped a gift for collection tomorrow. She’s got a knack for gift-wrapping, even if she won’t admit it. It’s a small but meaningful gesture, one that conveys care and connection. Despite the tiredness that accompanies these tasks, they’re rewarding in their own way – tangible expressions of the holiday spirit.

As the evening draws in, I’m finalising plans for my friend’s upcoming visit from the Netherlands for Christmas. The anticipation of their arrival adds a special excitement to the holiday preparations, making the effort all the more joyful.

So, that was my day as it stands – not filled with grand events, but rich with meaningful, small victories. It’s days like these that remind me of the importance of celebrating the little achievements, the quiet moments that make a big difference in my journey.

Here’s to cherishing these small wins and finding happiness in every day, especially as the festive season unfolds.
